Wohlers Associates measured the 3D printing industry at .2 billion in 2025, up 10.9%, yet Stratasys and 3D Systems together lost 7.37% of revenue that year. In Q2 2026, CONTEXT counted industrial printer revenue up 40% worldwide while their products revenue combined moved −0.68%. That gap is what BitsFromBytes Research found when it set filings and shipment-tracker data beside the industry total.
Quick Answer: The global additive manufacturing industry earned .2 billion in 2025, up 10.9%, per the Wohlers Report 2026. Printing services made up 48%, system sales 26%, materials 20% and software 6%. Stratasys and 3D Systems lost 7.37% of revenue while CONTEXT put entry-level shipments up 26%.
Dataset: the CSV fact table (116 rows, every figure on this page with its source and retrieval date, CC BY 4.0).
Key Findings
- Wohlers reports .2 billion for 2025, up 10.9%, with printing services the largest segment at 48% of revenue and growing 15.5%, against 3.6% for system sales (Wohlers Report 2026).
- BitsFromBytes Research finds Wohlers’ 10.9% growth consistent with its rounded totals: .2 billion over .9 billion gives 10.5%, and rounding alone allows 10.02% to 10.98%.
- BitsFromBytes Research estimates printing services at about .6 billion, 1.85× system sales, by multiplying Wohlers’ published shares by its .2 billion total.
- BitsFromBytes Research finds the hardware boom is not showing at Stratasys or 3D Systems: in Q2 2026, CONTEXT put industrial printer revenue up 40% and entry-level up 36%, while their products revenue combined moved −0.68%.
- BitsFromBytes Research estimates entry-level revenue per printer shipped rose 10.6% year over year in Q2 2026, against 4.1% in Q4 2025, from CONTEXT’s revenue and unit growth rates.
How Big Is the 3D Printing Market?
Wohlers Associates measured global additive manufacturing revenue at $24.2 billion in 2025, up 10.9% on 2024. Its 2024 figure was $21.9 billion, up 9.1% (Wohlers Report 2025, March 31, 2025). The Wohlers Report 2026 release counts services, systems, materials and software together.
Is the 10.9% Growth Rate Consistent With the Totals?
Yes. Divide $24.2 billion by $21.9 billion and the result is 10.5%, not 10.9%. Both totals are rounded to $0.1 billion, so each can be off by $0.05 billion, and the ratio can fall anywhere from 10.02% to 10.98%. The reported 10.9% sits inside that range, and it implies a 2024 base of about $21.82 billion. The published figures do not contradict each other.
Wohlers publishes quarterly updates too. Its Q2 2026 update, dated July 15, 2026, shows no growth figures on the public page, so this page has no 2026 industry total. Next year’s total will come from the Wohlers Report 2027.
Where Does 3D Printing Revenue Come From?
Printing services are the largest segment, at 48% of 2025 revenue, or about $11.6 billion. Wohlers publishes shares, not dollars, so BitsFromBytes Research multiplied each share by the $24.2 billion total. Shares are rounded to whole points, so each dollar figure carries about ±$0.12 billion.
| Segment | Share of 2025 revenue | Estimated revenue | 2025 growth |
|---|---|---|---|
| Printing services | 48% | $11.6 billion | 15.5% |
| System sales and servicing | 26% | $6.3 billion | 3.6% |
| Materials | 20% | $4.8 billion | Not reported |
| Software | 6% | $1.5 billion | Not reported |
Source: Wohlers Report 2026 release; estimates by BitsFromBytes Research. Services are 1.85× system sales.
For a maker, the printer is a quarter of the money. Most of it is spent on parts, materials and the software around them, which is why a flat year for a printer maker and a growing industry total can both be true.
Which Regions Are Growing Fastest?
Wohlers reports the average revenue growth of companies in each region: 19.8% in Asia-Pacific, 12.6% in the Americas and 9.0% in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. These are averages of company results, not regional market growth.
How Many 3D Printers Ship, and Who Sells Them?
CONTEXT, a shipment tracker, put worldwide 3D printer system revenue up 32% in Q1 2026 and 31% in Q2 2026. It publishes growth rates and shares, and the pages fetched give no unit totals. The table keeps its three most recent quarters in one place.
| Segment | Q4 2025 units | Q4 2025 revenue | Q1 2026 units | Q1 2026 revenue | Q2 2026 units | Q2 2026 revenue |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Entry-level (under $2,500) | +47% | +53% | +39% | +54% | +23% | +36% |
| Industrial (over $100,000) | +12% | +16% | +18% | +23% | +25% | +40% |
Year over year, per CONTEXT. Q4 2025 and Q1 2026 come from CONTEXT’s own pages; Q2 2026 is relayed by TCT Magazine, which dates its report October 14, 2026. Entry-level unit growth slowed 24 points from Q4 2025 to Q2 2026 while industrial accelerated.
What Happened to Revenue per Printer?
BitsFromBytes Research divided revenue growth by unit growth to get an implied change in revenue per printer shipped. Entry-level rose from 4.1% in Q4 2025 to 10.8% in Q1 2026 and 10.6% in Q2 2026. Industrial rose 3.6%, 4.2% and 12.0% over the same quarters.
The figure mixes price, product mix and currency, so it is not a list-price change. A reasonable reading is that buyers are moving toward more expensive machines, but CONTEXT’s pages do not say so.
Who Sells the Entry-Level Printers?
Four brands, Bambu Lab, Creality, Elegoo and Anycubic, shipped 88% of entry-level printers in Q1 2026 and 87% in Q2 2026. Chinese vendors held over 90% of global entry-level shipments in 2025, and China accounted for nearly 95% over the twelve months to Q2 2026. Those two shares count different things, vendors and country, so do not set them against each other. CONTEXT’s Q4 2025 release credits Bambu Lab with 37% of entry-level shipments “in the period” and does not name the period.
For the printers behind these shipments, see the Bambu Lab A1 specs and power cost and the FDM settings guide.
Which Segments Are Shrinking?
The middle. Professional printers ($2,500 to $20,000) fell 15% in units in 2025 and 13% in Q2 2026, with revenue down 24% in Q2. Midrange ($20,000 to $100,000) fell 12% in 2025 and rose 8% in Q2 2026. Industrial units fell 3% for 2025, the fourth straight annual decline per CONTEXT, before rising in each 2026 quarter shown. Formlabs held 38% of professional shipments in 2025.
Are 3D Printer Makers Growing?
Not Stratasys or 3D Systems. Stratasys revenue fell 3.74% in 2025 and 3D Systems fell 12.09%, so together they lost 7.37% while Wohlers counted the industry up 10.9%. These are company totals, which include services and consumables, not only machines.
| Company | FY2025 revenue | FY2024 revenue | Change | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stratasys | $551.1 million | $572.5 million | −3.74% | Stratasys Form 6-K |
| 3D Systems | $386.902 million | $440.121 million | −12.09% | 3D Systems Form 8-K |
| Protolabs, 3D printing line | $80.298 million | $83.767 million | −4.14% | Protolabs earnings release |
| Materialise, total | €267.633 million | €266.765 million | +0.33% | Materialise earnings release |
| Nano Dimension | $102.437 million | $57.775 million | +77.3% (includes Markforged from 2025-04-25) | Nano Dimension Form 8-K |
Materialise shows how uneven the split is: Medical grew 15.37% while Manufacturing fell 13.17% and Software fell 6.82%. Nano Dimension’s 77.3% is mostly an acquisition, so it is not comparable with the others.
What Did the Second Quarter of 2026 Show?
Stratasys reported Q2 2026 revenue of $137.606 million against $138.086 million a year earlier (Stratasys Q2 2026 Form 6-K). 3D Systems reported $94.579 million against $94.838 million (3D Systems Q2 2026 Form 8-K). On products revenue, Stratasys moved −2.17% and 3D Systems +1.93%, a combined −0.68%.
Set that against CONTEXT’s Q2 2026 hardware revenue of +40% for industrial and +36% for entry-level, and the gap is 40.68 and 36.68 percentage points. The scopes differ: company products revenue includes consumables, and Stratasys sells across several price classes. Stratasys’ release names record consumables revenue of $66.3 million, so at most $26.438 million of its Q2 products revenue came from anything else, mainly systems (a BitsFromBytes Research subtraction; the release does not split products). Even so, the direction is clear in the filings. The filings do not say why.
Stratasys guides to $565 to $575 million for 2026, which is 2.52% to 4.34% above 2025. 3D Systems guided to $96 to $99 million for Q3 2026. The Q3 filings are the next test.

Sources (retrieved October 31, 2026). Wohlers Associates’ Report 2026 and Report 2025 press pages; Stratasys Form 6-Ks for FY2025 and Q2 2026; 3D Systems Form 8-Ks for FY2025 and Q2 2026; Materialise, Nano Dimension and Protolabs earnings releases; CONTEXT pages for Q4 2025 and Q1 2026; TCT Magazine’s report of CONTEXT’s Q2 2026 data. Every URL is in the CSV.
Labels. is_primary = TRUE marks the publisher’s own statement or filing, including market-research firms’ own pages, which are estimates. CONTEXT is a measurement firm and its figures are estimates. TCT Magazine’s relay of CONTEXT’s Q2 2026 data is is_primary = FALSE. Rows with bfb_calculated = TRUE are BitsFromBytes Research calculations. Rows older than six months at retrieval carry older_data = TRUE.
Formulas.
- Spread = highest ÷ lowest of the published figures for one year.
- Difference vs Wohlers = (publisher ÷ Wohlers − 1) × 100.
- Growth rounding range = (24.25 ÷ 21.85 − 1) and (24.15 ÷ 21.95 − 1), × 100.
- Segment revenue = $24.2 billion × published share.
- Implied revenue per unit change = ((1 + revenue growth) ÷ (1 + unit growth) − 1) × 100.
- Company growth = (current ÷ prior − 1) × 100, from filed figures.
- Combined makers = (Stratasys + 3D Systems current) ÷ (prior) − 1.
Exclusions. The page uses filings, Wohlers and CONTEXT only. Market-size figures from research-report vendors are left out because their methods are not shown.
Limitations. CONTEXT’s Q2 2026 data is relayed by TCT Magazine and the original release was not fetched. Company products revenue and CONTEXT hardware revenue differ in scope. Euro and dollar figures are not converted. The Materialise release date is taken from its URL. No government series was used, and the research is not exhaustive. Competing pages and Semrush data were not used for numbers.
