GTA 6 FPS Calculator: How 30, 40 and 60 fps Will Look on Your TV

By BitsFromBytes Team · Reviewed by Riley Tamura · Last updated October 27, 2026

Quick answer: At 30 fps, GTA 6 shows a new frame every 33.3 ms, and a 60 Hz TV holds each frame for exactly two refreshes, so motion stays even. Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson said console builds ran at 30 fps during development, with a 60 fps option still undecided (Push Square, August 2026).

Status as of Oct 27, 2026: Rockstar has published no frame rate, resolution or graphics mode for GTA 6. Rockstar North's Rob Nelson said console builds ran at 30 fps during development and that a 60 fps option was undecided (reported Aug 27, 2026). The 48 Hz VRR floor is the PS5 window measured by Digital Foundry; check your TV manual. Math only: no frame-rate prediction for any hardware. Runs in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere.

What does this GTA 6 FPS calculator do?

It shows how a GTA 6 frame rate will reach your eyes on your own setup. Pick your console, whether your TV runs at 60 Hz or 120 Hz, and whether variable refresh rate (VRR) is on. Then enter a frame rate and the lowest rate you expect in busy scenes. The tool returns the frame time, how many screen refreshes each frame occupies, whether pacing is even or judders, and which output setting keeps it even. It predicts nothing about performance: it does the timing math for any frame rate Rockstar ships.

What frame rate will GTA 6 run at on PS5 and Xbox?

Rockstar has not published a frame rate, a resolution or a list of graphics modes for GTA 6 on any console, as of October 27, 2026. The only statement from the studio is secondhand. YouTuber Davy Jones reported after a visit to Rockstar North in Edinburgh that Rob Nelson, its lead developer and co-director, said the game targeted 30 fps on consoles. Nelson added he would need to consult the technical team about a 60 fps option at launch or later, according to Push Square’s report of August 2026.

GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only; see our GTA 6 release date page for the sourced timeline. No PC version has been announced, so no PC system requirements exist. Any site listing “official” GTA 6 PC specs or predicted fps per graphics card is publishing a guess.

How does the calculator work out frame pacing?

A TV with a fixed refresh rate can only swap images on its own beat. Frame pacing is even when the refresh rate divides exactly by the frame rate, and uneven when it does not. These are the formulas the tool runs:

OutputFormula
Frame time1,000 ÷ fps (milliseconds)
Refresh interval1,000 ÷ screen Hz (16.7 ms at 60 Hz, 8.3 ms at 120 Hz)
Refreshes per framescreen Hz ÷ fps; a whole number means even pacing
Uneven pacingframes alternate between floor(Hz ÷ fps) and floor(Hz ÷ fps) + 1 refreshes; the swing is one refresh interval
With VRR onif the frame rate sits between the VRR lower limit and the screen Hz, the screen refreshes once per frame and pacing is even
Above the screen Hzthe extra frames are never shown (capped)

The PS5 lets you enable 120 Hz output and VRR in Settings, Screen and Video, Video Output, on screens that support them, according to PlayStation Support. Sony does not publish the VRR range on that page. Digital Foundry measured the PS5 VRR window at 48 to 60 Hz on a 60 Hz output and 48 to 120 Hz on a 120 Hz output, which is why the tool defaults the VRR lower limit to 48 Hz [older data: measured in 2022, when Sony launched VRR on PS5]. Xbox Series X|S consoles also output up to 120 Hz with VRR on compatible displays; their VRR floor depends on the TV, so enter the figure from your TV’s manual.

Worked example: 30 fps with dips, and a hypothetical 40 fps mode

The calculator opens on the reported target: 30 fps on a PS5 at 60 Hz, with dips to 28 fps in heavy scenes. The 28 fps figure is an example input, not a measurement of the game.

Two findings matter before launch day. First, a locked 30 fps is the one frame rate that paces evenly on every TV, because both 60 Hz and 120 Hz divide by it; a game that dips below 30 fps produces 50 ms frames on a 60 Hz screen, a third longer than the 33.3 ms target. Second, BitsFromBytes Research finds that a 40 fps mode, should Rockstar add one, only paces evenly at 120 Hz output: on a 60 Hz TV it alternates 16.7 ms and 33.3 ms frames, and on a PS5 it also falls below the 48 Hz VRR floor. If you plan to buy a TV for GTA 6, 120 Hz input with HDMI 2.1 keeps both a 30 fps and a 40 fps mode even.

What does this calculator not tell you?

  • How fast GTA 6 runs on any hardware. No benchmark exists before the November 19 launch and no PC version has been announced. The tool computes timing for frame rates you enter.
  • Motion blur, frame generation and input latency. They change how motion feels but are not part of pacing math, and Rockstar has published nothing on them for GTA 6.
  • Low framerate compensation. Some games and displays repeat frames to stay inside the VRR window; the tool assumes they do not, which matches the PS5 behavior Digital Foundry described.
  • Your TV’s exact VRR range. The 48 Hz default is a PS5 measurement; check your display’s specifications.

How fresh is this data?

The frame-rate status was checked on October 27, 2026. This page will be updated when Rockstar or Sony publishes GTA 6’s graphics modes, on launch day (November 19, 2026) and after any patch that adds a performance mode. The timing math does not change; only the status row does.

FAQ

Will GTA 6 run at 60 fps?

Not confirmed. Rob Nelson of Rockstar North said console builds ran at 30 fps during development and that a 60 fps option at launch or later was for the technical team to decide, as reported in August 2026. Rockstar has announced no performance mode.

Is 30 fps smooth on a 60 Hz TV?

It is evenly paced: 60 divided by 30 is exactly 2, so each frame stays on screen for two refreshes, 33.3 ms. Judder appears only when the game drops below 30 fps, when some frames last 50 ms.

Do I need a 120 Hz TV for GTA 6?

Not for 30 fps. A 120 Hz output only changes the result if Rockstar adds a 40 fps mode, which paces evenly at 120 Hz (three refreshes per frame) but not at 60 Hz. No 40 fps mode has been announced.

Does VRR help GTA 6 at 30 fps?

Not on PS5 without frame doubling. Digital Foundry measured the PS5 VRR window starting at 48 Hz, and 30 fps sits below it, so the console falls back to fixed refresh. VRR helps frame rates between 48 and 60 fps on a 60 Hz output, or 48 and 120 fps at 120 Hz.

What are the GTA 6 PC requirements?

None exist. Rockstar has announced GTA 6 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only, so it has published no PC version or PC system requirements. Our GTA 6 system requirements checker compares your PC with the consoles it runs on.
