Take-Two’s guidance leaves room for about $1.9 billion to $2.2 billion of Grand Theft Auto VI sales between October 2026 and March 2027. That is BitsFromBytes Research’s reading of the company’s own numbers, and it equals roughly 19 to 27 million copies at the two US list prices. Every analyst unit estimate we found is higher.
Quick Answer: Take-Two has not published a GTA 6 revenue figure. Its fiscal 2027 guidance of $8.0 billion to $8.2 billion in net bookings implies, by BitsFromBytes Research’s calculation, $1.89 billion to $2.19 billion above the pre-launch run-rate in October to March. At $79.99 to $99.99 that is 19 to 27 million copies. Analysts quoted by the press say 35 to 45 million.

Key Findings
- Take-Two guides to $8.0 billion to $8.2 billion in net bookings for fiscal 2027, reiterated on August 7, 2026, and does not split out Grand Theft Auto VI.
- BitsFromBytes Research finds $4.944 billion to $5.194 billion is guided for October to March, of which $1.888 billion to $2.188 billion sits above a flat pre-launch pace of about $1.5 billion a quarter.
- BitsFromBytes Research estimates that residual buys 18.9 million to 27.4 million copies at the $99.99 and $79.99 US prices. JPMorgan reads the guidance as the mid-30 million range, Morgan Stanley expects 40 million, and the 45-million estimate is attributed to two different banks.
- In September 2026 dollars, GTA V’s first three days were worth $1.44 billion, and its launch-day revenue per unit was $104.71, so the $79.99 Standard Edition is 23.6% cheaper than the 2013 launch in real terms.
- Sensor Tower’s $594 million pre-order estimate equals 27% to 32% of the implied launch residual (October 13). It is a gross digital estimate set against a net-bookings leftover, so it is a scale marker only.
How Much Revenue Will GTA 6 Make?
Nobody who has the data has said. Net bookings is Take-Two’s own sales measure, reported next to GAAP net revenue, the accounting figure. Take-Two’s June 24, 2026 pre-order release states prices and dates and makes no sales or revenue forecast. What exists is company guidance for the whole business and a set of third-party estimates that measure different things over different periods.
| Source | Figure | Period | What it measures | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Take-Two (Aug 7, 2026) | $8.0–8.2 billion | Fiscal 2027 (to Mar 31, 2027) | Net bookings, whole company | Company guidance |
| Newzoo (Jul 16, 2026) | $3.25–5.2 billion | Launch week | Consumer spending, as reported | Estimate |
| Sensor Tower (Oct 13, 2026) | $594 million | Pre-orders to date | Digital pre-order revenue | Estimate |
| DFC Intelligence (Jan 2, 2025) | $3.2 billion | First year | Revenue, no price or unit basis stated | Estimate, pre-dates the $79.99 price |
| BitsFromBytes Research | $1.89–2.19 billion | Oct 2026 to Mar 2027 | Residual above pre-launch pace | Calculation, this page |
The rows cannot be added or compared directly. Newzoo’s launch-week low case is 1.5 to 1.7 times the BitsFromBytes residual for the whole of October to March, which shows how far the two bases sit apart rather than which is right. Newzoo’s own assumptions are on our GTA 6 statistics page, along with Sensor Tower’s pre-order series.
What Does Take-Two’s Guidance Imply for GTA 6?
$1.89 billion to $2.19 billion of net bookings above the pre-launch pace, between October 2026 and March 2027. The window covers the 132 days from the November 19 launch to March 31, 2027, plus the 49 days of October and early November before it.
BitsFromBytes Research derives it in three steps, using only Take-Two’s own figures:
- Guided second half. FY2027 guidance minus Q1 actual ($1,385.9 million) minus Q2 guidance gives $4,944.1 million (low: $8,000 − $1,385.9 − $1,670) to $5,194.1 million (high: $8,200 − $1,385.9 − $1,620).
- Baseline. The average of Q1 actual and Q2 guidance is $1,503.0 million (low) to $1,528.0 million (high) a quarter. Two quarters of that is $3,005.9 million to $3,055.9 million.
- Residual. $4,944.1 − $3,055.9 = $1,888.2 million; $5,194.1 − $3,005.9 = $2,188.2 million.
What could make the residual wrong?
Four things, in both directions. The baseline is flat, so holiday seasonality on Take-Two’s other titles would raise it and shrink the residual. Take-Two guides conservatively, a point JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley both made after the May call, which would push the true figure up. The residual also includes everything else that is new in the half, not only Grand Theft Auto VI, and recurrent spending on the new game’s online mode is not separable. Take-Two did not name the title in the Q2 outlook, and none of the fetched documents gives a Grand Theft Auto VI figure.
Treat the range as the amount of sales the guidance leaves room for, not a company forecast. The next checkpoint is Take-Two’s second-quarter fiscal 2027 results, which will either leave the guidance alone or move it.
How Many Copies Is That?
About 19 to 27 million at list prices, against 35 to 45 million from analysts. BitsFromBytes Research divides the residual by one price per copy: $1,888.2 million ÷ $99.99 gives 18.9 million, and $2,188.2 million ÷ $79.99 gives 27.4 million. At Newzoo’s assumed average of $88 the range is 21.5 million to 24.9 million.
| Source | Units | Period | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| BitsFromBytes Research | 18.9–27.4 million | Oct 2026 to Mar 2027 | Residual ÷ $99.99 to $79.99 |
| JPMorgan (May 22, 2026) | mid-30 million | FY2027 | Its reading of the guidance, called “rather conservative” |
| Joost van Dreunen, Aldora and NYU | 38 million | First year | Reported by Sherwood News |
| Morgan Stanley | 40 million | FY2027 | Reported by Sherwood News |
| DFC Intelligence | 40 million | First 12 months | Reported by GTA Intel |
| Piper Sandler or Bank of America | at least 45 million | Launch window or first year | Two outlets credit the figure to different banks |
BitsFromBytes Research cannot reproduce JPMorgan’s mid-30 million reading from public figures. The gap is the finding: either the guidance carries a large cushion, or the banks count recurrent online spending and later weeks that the residual leaves out. The same Sherwood News report said the guidance sat about 11% below Wall Street estimates when it was issued on May 21, 2026.
The 45-million figure also has two attributions. GTA Intel lists it under Piper Sandler; XTB, reported by OpenCritic, credits “at least 45 million copies” in year one to Bank of America. We list both and resolve neither.
How Does GTA 6 Compare With GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2?
In today’s money, GTA V’s first three days were worth $1.44 billion and Red Dead Redemption 2’s were worth $966 million. Guinness World Records recorded $815.7 million in 24 hours and $1 billion in three days for GTA V in October 2013 (Guinness). Take-Two reported over $725 million in three days for Red Dead Redemption 2 in October 2018 (Take-Two).
BitsFromBytes Research adjusts both with the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U), not seasonally adjusted, from the Bureau of Labor Statistics via FRED: 234.149 in September 2013, 252.885 in October 2018 and 336.940 in September 2026. The factors are 1.4390 and 1.3324.
GTA V’s launch-day revenue per unit was $72.77 then and $104.71 in September 2026 dollars ($815.7 million ÷ 11.21 million units). The $79.99 Standard Edition is 23.6% below that real figure. The comparison is rough, because the 2013 number is retail sell-through across editions and platforms.
For scale, Take-Two’s fiscal 2014 GAAP net revenue, the year GTA V launched, was $2.351 billion, and the company said GTA V had sold in more than 33 million units by May 13, 2014 (SEC filing). The guided fiscal 2027 range of $8.0 billion to $8.2 billion is net bookings, a different measure, so the two are context and not a like-for-like growth rate. The full unit history is on our GTA 5 sales statistics page, and the copies GTA 6 needs to beat each launch record are on GTA 6 sales.
What Does the Price Do to the Number?
Every extra million copies is worth $80 million to $100 million at the two US prices. BitsFromBytes Research’s grid multiplies units by one list price, before platform fees, returns and regional pricing:
| Copies | All at $79.99 | At Newzoo’s $88 average | All at $99.99 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25 million | $2.00 billion | $2.20 billion | $2.50 billion |
| 35 million | $2.80 billion | $3.08 billion | $3.50 billion |
| 40 million | $3.20 billion | $3.52 billion | $4.00 billion |
| 45 million | $3.60 billion | $3.96 billion | $4.50 billion |
The analyst unit range of 35 to 45 million at $79.99 to $99.99 spans $2.8 billion to $4.5 billion, against a guided residual of $1.9 billion to $2.2 billion. XTB’s claim that the $10 price rise adds about $450 million is the same multiplication, 45 million × $10, applied to a unit estimate. It is arithmetic on a forecast, not a measured gain.
The edition mix matters too. Sensor Tower’s revenue per pre-order has sat between $97.67 and $97.95 since August, which implies an Ultimate share of 88% to 90% if every buyer paid list price. That reading, and why it looks like a fixed model assumption, is on GTA 6 statistics. The prices themselves are on our GTA 6 price page.
How Much Has Been Pre-Sold So Far?
Sensor Tower estimated $594 million of digital pre-orders on October 13, 2026, and $630 million on October 20, per Axis Intelligence. Neither figure is confirmed by Rockstar or Take-Two. Against the BitsFromBytes residual, $594 million is 27.1% to 31.5%. That gross digital estimate and the net-bookings leftover are different measures, so the share shows scale and not a forecast.
DFC Intelligence told the Financial Times in January 2025 that pre-orders could pass $1 billion. Sensor Tower’s estimate stood at $594 million on October 13, which was 110 days after pre-orders opened and 37 days before launch, so the $1 billion mark has not been reached on that tracker yet. The pre-order counts, dates and who estimated them are collected in how many GTA 6 pre-orders have been sold, and the launch timeline is on our GTA 6 release date page.
Methodology
Sources (retrieved October 30, 2026 unless the CSV says otherwise). Take-Two Form 8-K earnings-release exhibits for fiscal 2014, the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026 and the first quarter of fiscal 2027; Take-Two’s June 24, 2026 pre-order release; Take-Two’s October 30, 2018 Red Dead Redemption 2 release; Guinness World Records (retrieved October 28, 2026); U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics CPI-U series via FRED and the BLS table. Every URL is in the CSV.
Labels. Take-Two, Guinness and BLS figures are company- or body-reported (is_primary = TRUE). Analyst, Newzoo and Sensor Tower figures are read through media reports (Sherwood News, GTA Intel, OpenCritic, Video Games Chronicle) and are labeled estimates. Rows marked bfb_calculated = TRUE are BitsFromBytes Research calculations.
Formulas.
- Guided second half = FY2027 guidance − Q1 actual − Q2 guidance, low paired with high and high with low.
- Baseline = 2 × (Q1 actual + Q2 guidance) ÷ 2.
- Residual = guided second half − baseline, low end against high baseline and high end against low baseline.
- Implied units = residual ÷ one price per copy.
- Real value = nominal × (CPI-U Sep 2026 ÷ CPI-U at the launch month).
- Scenario revenue = units × price.
Limitations. The baseline is flat and ignores seasonality. Net bookings, retail sell-through and gross consumer spending are different measures, and the page does not convert between them. Analyst figures were read second-hand and their model assumptions are mostly not published. The Take-Two guidance covers the whole company. Newzoo’s and Sensor Tower’s own pages could not be fetched, and Semrush search-volume data was not used.
Lead sources. Axis Intelligence’s GTA 6 statistics page is the source of Sensor Tower’s October 20 reading and was used to find primary documents, with the site owner’s approval. Axis’s separate GTA 6 revenue statistics page, last updated October 20, 2026, derives a guidance-implied step-up with its own method and lands lower than the BitsFromBytes range; BitsFromBytes Research has not reproduced that calculation.

FAQ
How much revenue will GTA 6 make?
Take-Two has not said. Its fiscal 2027 guidance of $8.0 billion to $8.2 billion in net bookings leaves room for about $1.9 billion to $2.2 billion of launch sales in October to March, by BitsFromBytes Research’s calculation. Analysts quote 35 to 45 million copies, which would be $2.8 billion to $4.5 billion at the US list prices.
How much does GTA 6 cost?
$79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition in the US, per Take-Two’s June 24, 2026 release.
How much money has GTA 6 made from pre-orders?
Rockstar and Take-Two have not said. Sensor Tower estimated $594 million in digital pre-order revenue on October 13, 2026. That is an unconfirmed estimate.
Why is Take-Two’s guidance lower than analyst estimates?
When it was issued on May 21, 2026, the guidance sat about 11% below Wall Street estimates, per Sherwood News. JPMorgan called it “rather conservative.” On the August 7 call, the CEO said the guidance was unchanged because “we haven’t sold one unit yet.”
